While vacationing in Bali, Chicago socialite Sheila von Wiese-Mack was beaten to death with a heavy glass fruit bowl. Her teen daughter, Heather Mack, 19, didn’t report to police the murder committed by her boyfriend, Tommy Schaefer, 21.
The Chicago teen recently gave birth to a daughter, Stella, who is sired by Schaefer. An empathetic panel of judges sentenced her to only 10 years in prison for her part in the heinous crime. She was found guilty of helping her boyfriend stuff her mother’s body into a suitcase before it was loaded into a taxi at the St Regis Hotel in Bali. She was pregnant and afraid of snitching on Schaefer.
Schaefer was sentenced to 18 years for the brutal and sadistic attack, which was deemed premeditated murder. He will be 39 years old when he is released from Kerobokan Jail. When Mack is released, their daughter will be 10 years old.
The judge commented, “In my decision I have made a special judgment because Heather has a baby who needs a mother. For Tommy, I call the crime sadistic.”
Stella will start the first two years of her life in a prison that is reportedly “overcrowded, flooded with crime and overflowing with drugs.” Yasona Laoly, Indonesia’s Justice and Human Rights Minister, is arranging for baby Stella to be baptised.
