Life after professional football has been pretty good for All-Pro defensive end and Super Bowl champion Simeon Rice.
After completing a storybook 12 year career in the NFL, the Chicago native decided to pursue his interest in filmmaking and enrolled in the New York Film Academy. Since graduating, Rice has gone on to direct a handful of independent short films. His latest opus, Unsullied, is a suspenseful thriller starring newcomer Murray Gray.
Gray and Rice, who wrote and directed the film, recently held a private screening for a packed house at Chicago’s Showplace Icon Theaters. Immediately following the screening, Gray and Rice participated in a Q-and-A session in which Rice told the audience he enjoys filmmaking because he gets to help others shine.
“I wanted to be in a position of power and influence to be a springboard for other people to have the spotlight,” Rice said. “For me, filmmaking is my portal to help others reach plateaus they never could imagine themselves reaching just as I did.”
