Miley Cyrus may be one of the music industry’s biggest girls, but the party-loving singer also has a humanitarian side that she’s now putting her weight behind with her new charity for LGBT youth. And while recently discussing her new charity, she revealed that she hasn’t always resided on the heterosexual side of the Kinsey scale.

During an interview with the Associated Press, Cyrus spoke about her new charity, Happy Hippie Foundation, which helps homeless youth and LGBT youth. And while talking about sexuality, she revealed that not all of her relationships have been “straight, heterosexual” ones.

Cyrus wouldn’t go into detail about her same-sex relationships, but she did explain why she’s using her platform as a celebrity to help LGBT youth.

“The position I’m in, I feel like I’ve got a lot of power,” she said. “But so many kids don’t feel that way. They’re under their parents’ rule.”

Cyrus says she was inspired to launch the charity after getting so much attention when she asked a homeless man to accept her Video of the Year trophy at the 2014 Video Music Awards. Cyrus says she was also moved by her “hero” Bruce Jenner, who recently came out as transgender, and the tragic death of transgender teen Leelah Alcorn.

Cyrus says that she wants to use her fame to bring about positive change in the world.

“When you have all eyes on you, what are you saying? And that’s what I had to ask myself a lot,” she said. “It’s like, I know you’re going to look at me more if my [breasts] are out, so look at me. And then I’m going to tell you about my foundation for an hour and totally hustle you.”

Cyrus explained that she’s going to keep her charitable focus on homelessness and LGBT youth for the next five years before moving on to other causes, such as climate change and animal welfare.

“It’s not going to be an overnight process,” she said. “You’ve got to get into a lot of people’s brains and you’ve got to really make this a topic.”

Not only do we commend Cyrus for launching this charity, but we give kudos to her for sharing a piece of her sexuality with the world. But her romantic interests aren’t the only subjects she’s discussed lately. Read what she recently had to say about her gender after the cut.
