The proverbial cops and robbers war rages on. During a traffic stop in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, on Saturday night, officers Benjamin Deen, 34, and Liquori Tate, 25 were shot and killed. Marvin Banks, 29, his 22-year-old girlfriend, Joanie Calloway; and Banks’ 26-year-old brother, Curtis Banks, were apprehended by police. Marvin Banks and Calloway are facing two counts of capital murder. Curtis Banks has been charged as an accessory.
Tamika Mills, a resident of Hattiesburg, found the injured cops while driving down Fourth Street and her passenger Pearnell Roberts told her to turn around because he saw a person lying on the ground. When she drove back around, they noticed another cop lying on the other side of the street rolling around on the ground. The cops’ cruiser lights were still flashing.
One of the officers said to Mills, “Am I dying? I know I’m dying. Just hand me my walkie-talkie.”
Both officers were transported to Forrest General Hospital and the county coroner confirmed their deaths.
A manhunt ensued. The suspects were arrested in different locations without incident.
