Heather Mack was sentenced in April for her part in a heinous crime. She was found guilty of helping her boyfriend, Tommy Schaefer, stuff her mother’s body into a suitcase before it was loaded into a taxi at the St. Regis Hotel in Bali. Chicago socialite Sheila von Wiese-Mack was beaten to death with a heavy glass fruit bowl. Schaefer was sentenced to 18 years for the brutal and sadistic attack, which was deemed premeditated murder and is serving his time in the overcrowded Lapas Kerobokan Prison, located in Kerobokan, Badung Regency, on the Indonesian island of Bali. The prison opened in 1979 and contains about 1,000 male and female prisoners of various nationalities; it was built to house 300 people.
Schaefer is demanding a portion of Mack’s $1.65 million trust fund set up by her slain mother to buy food from the outside and so he can have money invested on his behalf and be accessible to him upon his release. Mack’s Indonesian attorney, Ary Soenardi, is also demanding $200,000 for his services.
