Oh the heels of providing the vocals for Lifetime’s “Whitney” biopic this past January, Grammy-nominated singer Deborah Cox will now assume the lead in the North American tour of a musical stageplay adaption of Houston’s 1992 hit movie, The Bodyguard.

The musical, which actually made its debut at London’s Adelphi Theatre in 2012, originally starred Broadway star and recording artist Heather Headley, but opened to mixed reviews. Veteran Thea Sharrock will serve as director of the updated version of the play.

In addition to The Bodyguard, Cox is also working on a new album titled, Work of Art, and is presently starring in a play about the life of Josephine Baker.

“I am honored to represent two of the most iconic and historic women of the 20th century with the Broadway-bound Josephine project and now The Bodyguard,” Cox said. “As a performing artist, it’s a dream of a lifetime to now have an opportunity to not only sing, but to also feature my acting and dancing talents. What a blessing!”

The Bodyguard is set to premiere in the fall of 2016.
