Romecia Simms, 24, was known to have mental issues. Her depression and bipolar disorder were so bad that the father of her son attempted to gain full custody of their 3-year-old child, Ji’Aire Lee. However, a judge ruled in Simms’ favor and awarded the couple joint custody of the child. It was a fatal mistake.
According to NBC Washington, Simms pushed Ji’Aire on a swing for two days straight at Wills Memorial Park in La Plata, Maryland. Neighbors called police when they noticed that she continued to push the boy on a swing in the wee hours of the morning. When the cops arrived, Ji’Aire’s body was lifeless.
An autopsy revealed that Ji’Aire died from dehydration and hypothermia. Simms told authorities that she suffered from a mental breakdown and doesn’t remember pushing her son on the swing. During the child’s funeral, Simms held hands with the child’s father, James Lee, 29.
Simms has yet to be charged with murder as authorities continue to investigate.
