Eric Garner’s family continues to deal with grief following his untimely death at the hands of the NYPD. But now there are other personal matters that could rip the family apart.

According to New York Daily News, Garner is the father of a 16-month-old girl he conceived out of wedlock. He apparently lived with Jewel Miller for three years following a split from his wife Esaw Garner. Although Eric and Esaw split, they were never legally divorced.

But Esaw will receive millions if her family wins a $75 million wrongful death lawsuit. In turn, Miller and her baby could also receive money since the youngest child often receives the largest portion of the settlement.

Esaw isn’t ready to accept the child into her family and was quoted as saying, “I know the truth. My kids know the truth. We know that’s her baby and fine, that’s what she’s entitled to.”

Eric also had four kids with Esaw ranging from 15-25.

Garner was killed in July 2014 after police approached him and choked him to death for allegedly selling cigarettes. His death sparked protests around the world and led to the “I can’t breathe” campaign that was embraced by star athletes and celebrities.
