Ever since Caitlyn Jenner came out as transgender this year, fans have been extremely curious to know how her family has reacted to her transition to becoming a woman. And while it’s well known how Jenner’s kids and ex-wife, Kris Jenner, feel about his transition, fans have wondered how Jenner’s son-in-law, Kanye West, reacted to having a transgender mother-in-law. Now, the big question has finally been answered as Jenner has opened up about making her debut as woman to West in her new reality show.
In a clip of the new docuseries, “I Am Cait,” which debuted on E! last night, Jenner invites West, as well as Kim Kardashian West, to her home for the first time since her transition. In the clip, Jenner explains that she and West have never been close,
“Kanye and I have never really been close, but I love his open-mindedness. And I love how he’s helped Kim come to grips with what’s going on,” Jenner said in her confessional.
And after West greeted Jenner in her home with a smile, a hug, and a “what up?” he told her, in a touching moment, why her transition is so important to the world, especially the transgender community.
“I think this is one of the strongest things that ha[s] happened in our, you know, existence as human beings that are so controlled by perception. ‘Cause you couldn’t have been up against more. Like, your daughter is a supermodel; you’re a celebrity; you have every type of thing, and it was still like ‘F— everybody. This is who I am,’ ” West shared.
Considering West’s history of being an ally to the gay community, we’re not shocked that he’s open and supportive of the trans community as well. And we’re happy that he and Kim have embraced Jenner’s true identity and are supporting her wholeheartedly.
