Fresh off his acclaimed performance as N.W.A. leader Eric “Eazy-E” Wright in Straight Outta Compton, actor Jason Mitchell already has his sights set on his next project.
According to Variety, Mitchell is close to finalizing a deal to join the cast of Kong: Skull Island, which will star Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and interestingly enough, his Compton castmate Corey Hawkins.
Set to be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (MTV’s Death Valley, The Kings of Summer), Kong “will be set in the mysterious, dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the island.” Mitchell will take on the role of a pilot in the film.
It’s been a breakthrough year for Mitchell whose portrayal of the late rapper drew praise from critics and even Wright’s children. Additionally, Mitchell has guested on the TV show “Major Crimes,” and also completed a film called Vincent-N-Roxxy alongside Zoe Kravitz.
The 28-year-old actor was also recently named on Variety’s 10 Actors to Watch list.
