For women of a certain age in the entertainment industry, it’s often not enough to just be smart, savvy and successful. Unlike their male counterparts, success for them isn’t only measured by the lucrative companies they have under their belt; it’s also measured by who and when they marry and if they have kids. And for Tyra Banks, the sting of that standard has weighed on her in ways that fans had never known until she opened up about her fertility issues recently.
In a preview clip of an upcoming episode of Banks’ “FABLife” talk show, co-host and fellow model Chrissy Teigen opened up about the harmful pressure she feels from the world to have a baby with her husband of two years, John Legend.
“I will say, honestly, John and I are having trouble,” Teigen confessed before revealing they’ve seen fertility doctors. “We would have kids five, six years ago if it’d happened. But my gosh, it’s been a process!”
Teigen continued, “So, anytime somebody asks me if I’m going to have kids, I’m like, ‘One day, you’re going to ask that to the wrong girl who’s really struggling, and it’s going to be really hurtful to them.’ And I hate that. So, I hate it. Stop asking me!”
To the surprise of the audience, and seemingly the hosts, Teigen’s words struck a sensitive nerve with Banks and she let loose a flood of emotions as she opened up for the first time publicly about her struggle to have kids.
