On Thursday, rapper T.I. made headlines when he publicly broke ties with his artist Iggy Azalea. In a recent interview with Hot 97 personality Ebro, T.I. admitted that he “took a bit of a rest stop” in his relationship with the female emcee, prompting the Australian beauty to take to Twitter and say “Here’s the deal, I am still signed to @tip and do business with him. The first I’ve heard of us having an ‘issue’ is via a radio interview.”
She added: “I’m sure Tip will publicly clarify what he meant when he feels he has the right platform to do so and other than that, I’m chillin’.”
On Friday the “T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle” reality star did just that. “That’s still my partner,” the 34-year-old rapper/producer clarified in a new interview in Vulture, noting that she’s still his “little sister.” He further stated, “Her life has taken her in a different direction. My life is still as it was before. But Iggy is doing what she feels makes Iggy happy. That’s what she should do. We’re focused on making the next Iggy record and dodge the same adversities we faced last time.”
As for what prompted the “rest stop” in his relationship with Azalea, he noted her Twitter feud with Q-Tip last December, which highlighted issues of cultural appropriation and the history of hip-hop. “It’s definitely not a ‘sever my ties, walk away, I’m upset’ thing,” he said. “It was more so like, ‘OK, you have a lot on your plate right now. I’m going to pull back or wait until you come to a place where you’re ready to come back to the table, so we can start again and make history some more.'”
And while Tip also admitted that Azalea has not yet reached out to him concerning his initial remarks, he did say he’s caught a few of her tweets. “We speak to each other without having to speak to each other,” he said. “It’s funny sometimes, but we’re straight.”
Meanwhile, Nick Young’s fiance has yet to respond to T.I.’s clarification, but she did reveal on Wednesday that she’s shooting her album cover in about a week. Adding, “so strange that it’s all coming to completion.” And while it appears these two haven’t had a personal, face-to-face conversation acknowledging the tension just yet, that won’t keep them from making money together — for now.
