Much ado about everything. The controversial look that Disney star Zendaya Coleman rocked during the 2015 Oscars is being immortalized. Sporting locs, that resulted in fiery social media debates and became tabloid fodder, Zendaya was undeservedly criticized by “Fashion Police’s” Giuliani Rancic. Apparently, Mattel, the makers of the infamous Barbie doll and friends, thought differently of the look that “smells like patchouli,” or “weed.”
The Zendaya Barbie doll is wearing locs and a sleek rendition of the Vivienne Westwood gown the “K.C. Undercover” star wore during Hollywood’s biggest night.
Barbie honored Zendaya for encouraging girls to raise their voices with a one-of-a-kind doll made in her likeness at the Barbie Rock ‘N Royals Concert Experience at the Hollywood Palladium!
The Zendyaa Barbie doll was designed by Carlyle Nuera.
So graciously, Zendaya writes on Instagram, “When I was little I couldn’t find a Barbie that looked like me, my…how times have changed.
“Thank you [Barbie] for this honor and for allowing me to be a part of your diversification and expansion of the definition of beauty. Can’t wait to keep doing amazing things with you.”
Sorry mommies. This Zendyaa Barbie doll isn’t available for retail.
