Could Rihanna’s long-awaited eighth studio album be just around the corner? It appears so.
Per Fader magazine’s Twitter account, on Wed., Oct. 7, the Bajan-pop princess unveiled both the cover art and title of the record, ANTI, at a magazine party they hosted for her in L.A. The 27-year-old seemed to confirm the album’s title, previously known as #R8, by posting a snap of the term’s definition via Instagram.
“A person opposed to a particular party, policy activity, or idea.” it reads. According to Rihanna’s Instagram, she collaborated with contemporary artist Roy Nachum for the cover art that shows a young Rihanna with what appears to be a gold crown across her eyes. Many details of the new release have been kept secret, but there’s been no shortage of sneak peeks including the single “B*tch Better Have My Money” and “American Oxygen.”
Due to the meaning behind the album’s title, however, we anticipate Rih will overwhelm us with a variety of controversial content and visuals. Earlier this week, the pop star made headlines as the November cover girl of Vanity Fair magazine. Inside the pages, she recounted her past relationship mishaps, including trying to “save” Chris Brown.
She said, “I was very protective of him. I felt that people didn’t understand him. Even after … But you know, you realize after a while that in that situation you’re the enemy. You want the best for them, but if you remind them of their failures, or if you remind them of bad moments in their life, or even if you say I’m willing to put up with something, they think less of you—because they know you don’t deserve what they’re going to give. And if you put up with it, maybe you are agreeing that you [deserve] this, and that’s when I finally had to say, ‘Uh-oh, I was stupid thinking I was built for this.’ Sometimes you just have to walk away.”
If you ask us, Rih’s sudden urge to open up (for the press) is a sign that she’ll be dropping an album any day now. Are you ready for Rihanna’s eighth studio album? Sign off in the comment section below.
