This week, stars across the nation have chimed in on Lamar Odom’s tragic coma, which was reportedly brought on by an alleged drug overdose. And many in the celebrity world have felt the sting of drug abuse in their own lives or amongst their loved ones. One of those celebs is Oprah Winfrey, who recently shared her thoughts on Odom’s coma and opened up about her family’s issues with substance abuse.

For those that don’t know, Odom was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel this past Tuesday. Drugs were reportedly found in his system and the former NBA star has been in a coma ever since he was rushed to a hospital.

In a recent interview with with “Extra,” Winfrey spoke on Odom’s dire situation and explained what she’s learned from her own family about drug abuse.

“It reminded me of having to deal with drugs in my own family,” Winfrey shared. “It is a battle that you can’t win until they decide they want to win. In my own family we lost that battle, I put my sister through rehab twice, she came out of rehab and went right back on Oxycontin and there it was, gone, dead.”

She then spoke about Odom’s family and friends, saying she could relate to the intense emotions they must feel about wanting Odom to survive and get better.

“I know how frustrating it is because you want to be able to help, you want to be able to do something,” she said.

As expected, the Kardashians, Odom’s kids and his father have all been by his side for days in the hospital, hoping and praying for Odom to wake up from his coma. And Odom’s estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian, has been making medical decisions for Odom while he’s unconscious.

As always, we send our deepest condolences to Odom’s family and friends over this tragedy and we hope he pulls out of this coma soon.
