The parents of a 6-year-old Florida girl are livid because school administrators sent the student home in nothing but a red T-shirt and underwear after she peed on herself.
Raymond McCurdy says his child was in her classroom at Bellterre Elementary School in Palm Coast on Oct. 13 when she raised her hand to ask the teacher to use the restroom, according to WSFB News 3. The teacher allegedly ignored her, and the girl eventually soiled herself.
When McCurdy picked his daughter up from the school bus, he was unpleasantly surprised to find his daughter in tears wearing nothing but a long red shirt and school-issued underwear. She was carrying her soiled clothing in a plastic bag.
“I was upset,” he said. “I was mad. What happens if my kid would have gotten touched by somebody?”
McCurdy didn’t understand why the school did not contact him when his daughter had an accident. He added that the school is aware that she has medical issues that make it difficult to hold her urine.
The concerned father said he immediately went to the school seeking answers, and he spoke to the assistant principal.
“[I asked] her why my daughter was sent home in just panties and a T-shirt,” he said. “She begins to tell me, ‘we thought she had a long enough shirt to be able to put her on the school bus and send her home.’”
The girl’s mother, Jennifer, said her daughter was “bullied” and “laughed at” while she was around her peers half-dressed, News 6 reported.
The student’s parents plan to take legal action and have hired a lawyer to make sure no one else’s child is ever humiliated the way their daughter was.
The school district is reportedly investigating the incident.
