Over the past decade, the LGBT Rights Movement has boomed and Americans watched as famous couples like Monfiah and Terez, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, and Shaun T and Scott Blokker and many others tied the knot and shared their love with the world. But after the Supreme Court of the United States made the decision to legalize same-sex marriage across the nation, gay and bisexual Americans across the board have been enjoying marriage equality. Now, a new report claims that nearly one million Americans are in same-sex marriages.

According to Instinct, a new Gallup poll claims that 96K same-sex couples have gotten married since the Supreme Court’s landmark decision.

“Currently, 49% of same-sex couples living together in states where same-sex marriages were already legal report being married, compared with 42% prior to the decision. That means same-sex couples living together in these states are now as likely to be married as not,” the report claims.

Gallup reports that there are now approximately 972,000 Americans in same-sex marriages. In total, 9.6% of LGBT Americans identify as being married to a partner of the same sex. That number is up from 7.9% before the Supreme Court’s decision.

We’re happy that so many Americans are taking part in the freedom to marry who they love and we hope the number of same-sex marriages continues to grow.
