Preview Kanye West’s ‘American Idol’ audition

When “American Idol” rolled into San Francisco in October looking for final season hopefuls, among the starry-eyed contestants hoping to score a Golden Ticket into the music competition was multifaceted artist Kanye West. The rapper’s “Idol” journey, one of the many surprises to expect this season, was previewed in a 30-second clip highlighting his audition.

“My name is Kanye, I’m from the south side of Chicago,” West tells the judges in the clip. “I’m originally a producer. I always wanted to rap and no one really believed in me, so I wanted to try some things out, ya know?”

“What are you going to do for us today,” judge Jennifer Lopez asks West.

While the preview doesn’t show performance footage from the rapper’s audition, West delivered an acappella take on his “Gold Digger” for judges Lopez, Keith Urban and ‎Harry Connick, Jr.

While we’re unsure whether this means bigger things for West during “Idol’s” final season, the clip has us twiddling our thumbs in anticipation. “It’s YEEZY season! Can’t wait for you guys to see Kanye on @AmericanIdol in January! #Idol,” wrote Kim Kardashian via Twitter. We couldn’t agree more. In the meantime, tell us what you think of West’s clever “Idol” audition in the comment section below.
