On Wednesday, Jan. 14, Real Times Media (RTM) hosted its sixth edition of DRIVEN: A Tribute to Multicultural Achievement in the Automotive Industry during auto show week in Detroit. DRIVEN is an event that highlights and chronicles minority experience in the automotive industry. The sixth edition of the event celebrated the contributions and success stories of various minority groups in the industry. The event, now a staple “go-to” event during the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) media week, was well attended. It was held at the Garden Theater in Detroit and had special guest DJ Jermaine Dupri rock the ones and twos at the afterglow.

DRIVEN is also an unveiling of RTM’s annual book, which captures the inspirational success stories of trailblazers and emerging leaders who are driving the automotive industry into the next generation. The book helps to highlight  and celebrate minority achievement in the auto industry.

There was also an awards ceremony as part of the event that honored many industry leaders. Amongst those leaders, Jim H. Colon of Toyota Motor Sales, USA took home the Life Time Achievement Award. Jim is the vice president of African American Business Strategy at Toyota Motor Sales and has been working with the company since 1980. At Toyota, he’s responsible for creating, gathering and managing information and promotion initiatives for Toyota brands in addition to product and sales training.
