Vince Young’s arrest for drunk driving adds to the sad fall of a once promising NFL quarterback

Vince Young should have been one of the best quarterbacks of all-time. The night he led the University of Texas in an upset victory over USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl, Young appeared to be on his way to greatness.

He possessed the accuracy of a traditional drop back passer and the allusiveness of a skilled running back. After securing the Heisman Trophy and winning a National Title, Young was drafted by the Tennessee Titans and was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Although he made the Pro Bowl in 2010, Young never developed into the threat that he once was during his college days. By 2014, he was retired from the NFL without reaching his full potential. But Young’s struggles off the field have been more unfortunate than his lackluster career.

It was reported that Young was broke and filed for bankruptcy after securing $60 million during his playing days. There were articles written about friends who discussed his lavish lifestyle and how he spend thousands for dinners or at nightclubs.

But his latest incident is a scream for help. While driving in Austin, Texas, Young was arrested for DWI after officers pulled him over and he showed signs of slurred speech, a strong odor of alcohol, and laughing during his arrest.

Young, who currently works for the University of Texas’ diversity and community engagement program, posted his bail. However, he will need the support of his family, friends, the NFL and NCAA if he is to break the prison of addiction.
