Kamil Mcfadden plays Ernie Cooper on the Disney hit TV show, “KC Undercover.” An Atlanta native, he got his start in acting at an early age, which led to several roles and movies. Recently, rolling out spoke with the budding star about his journey thus far. Here are some excerpts from our conversation.
How did you get your start in acting?
My mom, my brother, and I moved to Atlanta where she put me in this home school program that taught about the performing arts. We would perform local plays at nearby Krogers, different Kwanzaa celebrations, and doing all of these things truly sparked my interest in acting. When I turned 8, I became a part of a theater group called Youth Ensemble of Atlanta and they helped me craft my skills in acting, dancing, and singing. It made me want to pursue acting on a bigger scale.
With classic shows such as “Even Stevens,” “Lizzy Mcquire,” and “That’s So Raven” all a part of Disney history, how does it feel knowing that “KC Undercover” can be mentioned in the conversation?
It feels great. Me being a fan of Disney first, it feels good knowing that I can be a part of a show kids will grow up one day and reminisce how they used to watch “KC Undercover.”
Do you and Ernie share any similarities, because I know your character on the show is a wiz in technology, yet clumsy at the same time?
I think some of the similarities that Ernie and I share are that we are both clumsy and goofy, but I’m not as goofy as Ernie. With the tech stuff, I only know the basic stuff.
Are there any tidbits or secrets that you can share with us about the upcoming season?
Well, the Coopers lost their privileges as spies and in the first episode, they are struggling to cope with civilian life. K.C. is trying to fit in more at school while Ernie becomes an inventor. Later in the season, Ernie gets a girlfriend and we also have Jasmine Guy, who is guest starring on three episodes. The storyline has a few shout-outs to Jasmine and Kadeem Hardison’s “A Different World” days, so everyone will have to stay tuned!
Season 2 of “K.C. Undercover” kicks off with a one-hour special episode, SUNDAY, MARCH 6 (8:00 pm ET) on Disney Channel.
Season two of “K.C. Undercover” will also feature an impressive list of guest stars, including TV icon Florence Henderson, veteran actress Jasmine Guy (“A Different World,” “The Vampire Diaries”), NBA great Rick Fox and Samm Levine (“Freaks and Geeks”).
