When you hear about a place that makes waffles, you may think of American waffles like Eggo or those made at Waffle House. But at Wafels & Dinges, you can enjoy sweet or savory waffles that will deliver a delicious and unique eating experience. Rolling out was taken on a tour of their Brooklyn facilities by the company’s founder and CEO Thomas DeGeest to learn more about the popular eatery and sample their fare.

The company gets its name from a combination of the Belgian spelling of waffles and the word “dinges,” which the founder describes as being similar to the word “whatchamacallit.” The Belgian-born DeGeest, who launched the company after leaving the corporate world to spend more time with his family and as an ode to his native country, offered us some of the delicious and creative eats offered by Waffels and Dinges, including the “Southern Belle” that features an innovative hash brown waffle with gravy and sausage. But my favorite was “Chili con Corne,” a delicious Tex-Mex take on a waffle. It features corn, chunky beef chili, cheddar cheese, sour cream, and cilantro on a corn meal waffle. Hurry if you want to savor these specialty waffles, for they are made in the winter only.

The company also offers sweet waffles, including “De Throwdown Wafel,” a sweet treat that won a competition against Chef Bobby Flay (hence the nickname). It features spekuloos spread (a delicious creation of the Wafels and Dinges team made with Belgian gingerbread cookies) and whipped cream. It is a favorite of kids and may bring out the kid in you. Wafels and Dinges also serves delicious shakes, including vanilla, chocolate and their patented spekuloos shake, ice cream waffle cones, and more.

Looking for a special touch for your once-in-a-lifetime event, or do you want to add a fun dish to your party? Wafels & Dinges also caters. Need more proof of the excellence of Wafels & Dinges? Their bevy of awards include “Best Belgian Waffle” in New York City and “Most Popular Food Truck” in the United States in 2013 as well as being named “Best Dessert Truck in America” by the Daily Meal in 2014. They were also in Forbes Magazine’s “25 Most Fantastic Food Trucks” in the country.
