Iman opens up about her 24-year-marriage to the late David Bowie.
In an episode of “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” taped before the iconic musician’s death on Jan. 10, 2016, the 60-year-old revealed the secret to her long-lasting relationship. “You have to be at the right time in your life that you’re ready for an everlasting relationship, that it becomes first and a priority in your life,” she said. “If your career is important to you, don’t get married and have children, because something will give. I know we as women, we want to be able to have it all, but we can’t have it all at the same time. So make your priority of what you want at that time.”
While making love a priority played a major role in their marriage, Iman went on to express the importance of keeping their relationship private and separate from the ever-changing stage personas they showed the world. “We both understand the difference between the person and the persona. When we are home we are just Iman and David. We’re not anybody else.”
In 1992, the Somalian stunner and the “Space Oddity” rock star tied the knot. They share a beautiful 15-year-old daughter, Alexandria Zahra Jones. Sadly, Bowie died after a private, 18-month battle with cancer, earlier this year. He was 69. Lost but not forgotten, Iman and Bowie’s love serves as one of Hollywood’s most iconic unions.
