Lamar Odom’s life has been anything but stable over the past three years. He’s dealt with not only with his breakup with his wife, Khloe Kardashian, but also a life-threatening addiction to drugs and a near-fatal overdose. And it certainly hasn’t helped that Odom’s NBA career stalled in 2013 and he hasn’t returned to an American court since. But now that Odom has a new lease on life, could he make a return to the NBA? Well, according reports, a friend of Odom’s wants to give him a fighting chance for a comeback.
As fans know, Odom had an illustrious NBA career that included seven years with the Los Angeles Lakers, before he was traded in 2011 to the Dallas Mavericks and then traded the following year to his original NBA team, the Los Angeles Clippers. However, Odom only spent one year with the Clippers and hasn’t played in the NBA since 2013, when his life began to take a downward spiral.
That spiral culminated in a near-fatal drug overdose last October that left Odom in the hospital fighting for his life before ending up in rehab with doctors saying it would take nearly a year before Odom would be back to normal. However, Odom has sped through his recovery and is doing better than expected. And he’s even begun speaking again about his long held desire to get back in the NBA.
“I still got it,” Odom said about a comeback last week at Kobe Bryant’s final NBA game.
Well, according to media reports, Odom’s going to get a chance to prove he’s still got it because fellow NBA veteran Baron Davis recently told the press that he’s going to invite Odom to join the legendary Drew League, an exclusive summer basketball league in Watts, California, where both former and current basketball stars like Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and LeBron James have all come during the NBA off-season to hone their skills.
“I’m going to reach out to LO to see if he would want to play alongside me on my team since he is wanting to return,” Davis said in an interview about his invitation.
This could be a major opportunity for Odom and it could definitely help him find a new focus in his life to help keep him on the straight and narrow path.
