Founded in 1876 by the entrepreneur, abolitionist, and philanthropist it’s named after, Johns Hopkins University is a private research school in Baltimore, Maryland. The university is famous for its medical, engineering, and arts and sciences divisions. Famous jazz poet Gil Scott-Heron received his master’s degree in creative writing from the school in 1972.
