This Oberlin, Ohio school is No. 9 on BI’s list. Oberlin College is famous for being the first American institution of higher learning to admit female and Black students on a regular basis, in addition to White male students. One of the school’s first Black students, George B. Vashon, graduated in 1844 and later became a founding professor at Howard University. Ed Helms, who starred in The Hangover trilogy, graduated in 1996 with his B.A. in film theory and technology from Oberlin.
