Wendy Williams has made a career off of being Hollywood’s biggest gossip and talking smack about celebs left and right. And although many of the celebrity victims have made threats to Williams about her loose tongue, few have actually done anything about it. However, that isn’t the case for hip-hop radio legend Angie Martinez, who recently revealed that she came to blows with Williams over her gossip.

According to media reports, Martinez recently released her new book, My Voice: A Memoir, and in the book she revealed that she and Williams were beefing with each other back when they were both radio hosts at New Yorks’ Hot 97 in the ’90s. Martinez claims that the beef started in 1997 when Williams started taking shots at Martinez on air. Martinez then claims that Williams blasted Martinez’s relationship with rapper Q-Tip on her website.

“One of my co-workers is dating Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest. Oh well. I guess some women like men who like men,” Williams allegedly wrote.

“Everybody was gay to Wendy,” Martinez writes in the book. “Every rapper you could think of in that era, I had heard Wendy Williams call them gay. Not one or two. Like every one of them.”

Martinez later reveals that one day she had finally had enough of Williams’ bashing and gossip and she decided to confront her at the Hot 97 studios. However, her plan didn’t go so well and she ended up fighting with Williams.

“I lost my f—— mind,” Angie said in the book. “Before I knew it I was swinging at her. It was a quick scuffle. It took only a few seconds for me to realize that she wasn’t really hitting me back — she was just trying to get me off of her.”

A fellow coworker pulled the ladies apart, and Martinez recalls that Williams picked up a mop and “just stood there with it like she wanted to have some sort of sword fight or something. It was actually kind of funny, even in the moment.”

Both Martinez and Williams were suspended after the fight, but after their return, Williams ended up eventually getting fired from Hot 97 and Martinez took her afternoon slot.

“The truth is that if it wasn’t me it was gonna be somebody else,” Angie wrote. “She was disrespectful to so many people all the time.”

Despite their now-infmaous fight, Martinez explains that she doesn’t at all hold a grudge against Williams.

She said, “I watch her TV talk show sometimes and she has really mastered her lane. I find myself watching and laughing out loud. I don’t have any ill feelings toward her.”
