Even though the first day of summer was June 20, summer doesn’t officially kick off until the BET Awards roll around. Now in its 15th year, The BET Awards is shaping up to be a huge event thanks to the list of performers and the tribute performance in honor of Prince that has the whole world buzzing. Here are the seven most anticipated moments from the BET Awards weekend.
The BET Experience:
The BET Experience has become a mainstay since BET first introduced the concept four years ago. This year, there is no shortage of greatness when it comes to the events that will take place. Featured performers who will be hitting the festival stage are Katt Williams and Mike Epps, Usher, Bryson Tiller, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz. The Sprite celebrity basketball fame is going to take place as well.
Celebrity basketball game:
The Celebrity Basketball Game will be an energetic, and entertaining event for everyone to enjoy. Big Boy and J. Cruz, plus Mike Epps will be coaching the game this year. Celebs who will be participating in the game will include Meek Mill, Floyd Mayweather, Desiigner, Lil Durk, plus more. The game will take place on Saturday, June 25 at 3:30 p.m.
The Roots live:
The Roots will be doing a late-night show with T.I., along with other special guests, so be on the look out for that. The show will be starting at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25.
Genius Talks:
This year, Genius Talks will include Snapchat king and producer DJ Khaled, along with veteran actress Gabrielle Union. Sunday’s genius talks will feature Legendary gospel artist Kirk Franklin and preacher DeVon Franklin. Genius Talks will kick off on Saturday, June 25.
BET Awards and BET Awards Prince Tribute:
It’s no secret now that the BET Awards this year will not only be centered around honoring Black excellence within all facets of media and entertainment, but also it will be dedicated to The Purple One, “Prince.” Performers at the awards will include, Fat Joe and Remy Ma, Future, Alicia Keys and Erykah Badu. Sheila E., Stevie Wonder, D’Angelo, Janelle Monae, and The Roots will be headlining the Prince tribute.
The BET Awards will air Sunday, June 26 at 8 p.m. EST.
