New details are emerging of a tragic double murder and police shooting of a mother and her two daughters. Last Friday, in Katy, Texas, Christy Sheats shot both her daughters – Madison, 17, and Taylor, 22, to death at her home after a family argument. The family was initially gathered to celebrate the birthday of Jason Sheats, the father of the woman’s two daughters. Jason and Christy Sheats had recently reconciled after an acrimonious separation. It was a joyous time for the family, as Taylor Sheats was scheduled to marry her fiancé Juan Sebastian Lugo this week. Christy Sheats reportedly asked for a family meeting that descended into a bloody and violent encounter.
Police revealed that Sheats stabbed her daughters in the home and then chased the girls and her husband with a handgun out into the street. An eyewitness saw Taylor, Madison and Jason running out of their home. According to the eyewitness, the young women were already wounded. The neighbor said Taylor collapsed on the street and he saw Christy come outside with a gun. She emptied her .38 caliber weapon into both girls while their father Jason Sheats ran for cover and pleaded with his ex-wife to stop. Instead, she returned into her home and reloaded her weapon while her ex-husband ran into a neighbor’s home for shelter. She then came back outside and shot her dying daughter Taylor again.
When police responded to the scene, they ordered Christy Sheats to drop her weapon as she stood over her daughters’ bodies. She refused to drop her gun and police shot Sheats once, killing her at the scene. According to investigators, Sheats was a staunch gun advocate, who had a history of mental illness. In March of this year, she posted to Facebook, “It would be horribly tragic if my ability to protect myself or my family were to be taken away, but that’s exactly what Democrats are determined to do by banning semi-automatic handguns.”
According to police, they had been called to the residence at least 14 times since 2012. Family and friends are now trying to come to grips with the tragic shooting and murders.
