If there is ever any doubt that there is disconnect between the community and the way it is being policed Baltimore has to be used as an example. The dismissal of charges against all the police officers involved in the homicide Freddie Gray has now turned attention to the Baltimore City Law Department and one particular lawyer the city has on staff. The name of that lawyer is Glenn Keith Allen and the reason for scrutiny of Allen is because he is a longtime supporter of the Neo-Nazi organization ‘National Alliance’.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has reveled in a report that Allen has given financial support to the  neo-Nazi group going back to 2002. According to the SPLC:

“Allen’s history with organized racism and anti-Semitism is deep. Records obtained by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) show he was a dues-paying member of the National Alliance for years. ..Allen was also a subscriber to the NA’s racist publications, purchased entrance to a Holocaust denial conference the group held and bought a Holocaust denial DVD the group sold.”

In addition the SPLC has stated that  maintains that Allen has contributed to the American Eagle Party National Committee and is possibly the vice chairman/parliamentarian or attorney for the NA.

This information comes on the heels of an explosive Department of Justice report that condemning the Baltimore Police Department for a series of offenses. Among those cited in the DOJ report include instances where officers routinely abused residents’ civil rights, performed unconstitutional searches, failed to hold cops accountable for misconduct and, in some cases, were told by supervisors to target black residents.

Shockingly, despite his connections to a White supremacist organization, Allen is still on the job and defending the city in a crucial lawsuit. In 2015, Sabein Burgess, a Black man, filed a suit against the city of Baltimore after serving 19 years in prison. The charges were dropped against him in 2014.  The lawsuit maintains that Baltimore Police fabricated evidence in his murder case.
