Nubian Skin is a new lingerie line geared toward Black women. It is becoming increasingly renowned for its flesh-toneed bras made especially for women of color. It has been nominated for the Black British Business Awards in the U.K.

Founder of Nubian Skin, Ade Hassan, is up for the Rising Star Award in the entrepreneur category. In the past year alone, Nubian Skin has been featured and worn by A-list celebs and models like Tyra Banks, Jourdan Dunn, Kerry Washington, and more. Nubian Skin made a huge splash on the scene when the line was picked up by Nordstrom. It was a huge win for Black women, and the brand is increasing in popularity primarily due to its necessity.

The issue of flesh tones, whether in shoes, lippies, or lingerie, has always been a difficult one for Black women mainly because they didn’t exist up until now. They were just beige or pale, and didn’t match women of color’s complexions as they should have. That’s why it’s inspiring to see companies like Nubian Skin looking to make a difference and help service a multibillion-dollar demographic.

Hassan was recently featured in Elle South Africa, and when asked why she started the line, she responded, “I couldn’t find what I wanted in shops … it simply wasn’t available. I knew I couldn’t be the only one who felt the same way, so I decided to create it. To have major retailers pick it up shows how important it is to cater to underserved customers.”

Hassan’s rationalization sounds like a great reason to have created the company, and something most Black women can relate to. Nubian Skin has bras, panties and tights with creative names like “Café Au Lait,” “Caramel,” “Berry” and “Cinnamon.” In addition to Nordstrom, Nubian Skin can also be purchased on ASOS.com and is available in many shops in the U.K. and United States.
