When it comes to getting her sexy on, media mogul Oprah Winfrey reveals she turns to her network’s new drama series “Queen Sugar.”
“Queen Sugar,” starring Dawn-Lyen Gardner, Kofi Siriboe, Tina Lifford, Bianca Lawson, Greg Vaughan, Henry G. Sanders, and Rutina Wesley, is based upon the novel by Natalie Baszile, following the life of two sisters, Nova Bordelon (Wesley) and Charley Bordelon West (Dawn-Lyen Gardner), who, with her teenage son Micah, move to the Deep South to claim an inheritance from her recently departed father, an 800-acre sugarcane farm.
According to the veteran talk show host, it was a scene from the Winfrey, DuVernay and Melissa Carter-helmed series that gave her an idea for her longtime educator, author, and businessman beau, Stedman Graham. “You want to be that person,” the 62-year-old said of a sex scene in which the main character opens a blanket to invite the partner into bed. “It hits a sensual nerve. He is unhooking her bra, and you’re like, ‘Whoa!’ I’m like, ‘I’m going to get Stedman to unhook my bra and see what happens. Put your hand in my panty hose and let’s see what happens,” Winfrey continued.
The Oprah Winfrey Network founder went on to reveal the television show is also a great opportunity to bond with girlfriends, like her longstanding partner in crime, Gayle King. In fact, after viewing a scene together in which Timon Kyle Durrett picks up Dawn-Lyen Gardner, Winfrey recalled King, 61, saying, “God, I wish somebody would pick me up like that.” To which Winfrey replied, “He’d probably hurt his back and fall into the pool. [Laughs] And that would ruin the scene.”
