YouTube has become a platform for many artists to reach a fan base that they never thought possible. It has also made a lot of women stray away from professional hair services. Instead of visiting the hair salon, they rely on their favorite YouTubers for hair advice. But does anyone notice the important disclaimers that read, “I am not a professional.”

YouTube can be a great resource; however, it is important to get your knowledge from the experts. You should visit a beauty salon every month for expert hair maintenance practices. For example, trims every 4-6 weeks (depending on texture) and monthly deep conditioning.

Our reporter, Markendia Geffrard, caught up with Gwen Carson, owner of Healthy Stylz in Richardson, Texas, at the Bronner Bros. International Beauty Show to gives us six reasons to get your hair maintained professionally each month:

  • “Enhances your look. Plainly, you’ll look better if you maintain your hair regularly.”
  • “Gives women or even, men confidence. Everyone knows when you look better, you feel better.”
  • “Your hair is a magnet. It can attract and [repel]. Rather we like it or not, your hair says a lot about you. You want your appearance to reflect how you want people to see you.”
  • “Healthy hair is the key to success. Hairstyles are a nice way to keep your look versatile, but it is important that you keep your hair healthy. Cosmetologists are certified to do just that.”
  • “The true knowledge of the stylist to maintain and keep your healthy is invaluable. A cosmetologist has been trained to maintain your hair. It is only right to lean on them for their invaluable and expert advice.”
  • “It’s all about the relationships. Not about the money. As a client and stylist, we need each other. Hair is a ministry and we truly care. Seeing a hair stylist regularly will create a bond between the two of you that is instrumental in the health of your hair.”
