While police have yet to release dash cam and body cam video of the killing of Keith Lamont Scott, the victim’s wife has released shocking video of the shooting.

In a video captured on cell phone by Scott’s wife, Rakeyia, it reveals how a possible misunderstanding became violent. With the police surrounding her husband, Rakeyia yelled that he had just taken his medication and suffered from Traumatic Brain Injury.

She also told the police officers that her husband was unarmed and not a threat to authorities. Rakeyia also attempted to convince her husband to step out of the car. But before the situation could be controlled, police fired several shots at Scott. Rakeyia ran near the scene and watched as her dead husband laid on the ground surrounded by police.

The video reveals how police officers possibly allowed a situation to become violent without taking proper measures to solve the issue. Police never went to Rakeyia to see if her husband needed assistance due to mental issues. Instead of police, an ambulance should have been called so that mental health workers could deal with Scott and his problems. The video shows that the violence could have been avoided.

The city of Charlotte is now experiencing unrest due to Scott’s killing. Citizens are also upset because police have yet to release video footage of the killing. Charlotte Police Chief Kerr Putney, Scott’s shooting was captured on police officer’s body cameras. Putney fabricated when he claimed that it was against the state’s law to release the footage because it requires a court order. However, the law that Putney was referring to has yet to go into effect. The department could actually release the video today according to the ACLU. The law that Putney is speaking about goes into effect on Oct. 1.

The lack of transparency continues to harm relationships between police and the citizens of Charlotte.
