A woman desperate to pay her car title loan allegedly killed her employer. According to police, Imani Burns first asked Somphot “Joey” Arosuk, the owner of the popular metro Atlanta restaurant Mai Tai ,for extra shifts at the eatery to pay her TitleMax loan. Arosuk reportedly told her, “Yes. You can come to work anytime,” however, she asked to be paid in advance and the owner told her no.
According to police, that is when Burns and her boyfriend, Jarvis Stanford, decided to rob Arosuk last month. he pair lay in wait smoking weed in a car until the restaurant closed and they saw Arosuk leave with the night deposit. Stanford approached the victim and demanded the money and was refused, he then shot Arosuk and grabbed the cash. Burns and Stanford left the scene and counted out the cash, a total of $800. Stanford gave Burns $200, kept $200 for himself and gave the rest to his baby’s mother. Unbeknownst to the pair, the whole incident was caught on a surveillance camera as well as partially seen by a nearby security guard, and police finally tracked the killers down. The pair were recently arrested and according to DeKalb County homicide detective Lynn Shuler confessed to their crime both blaming each other for the plot.
At a probable cause hearing this week, the judge found sufficient evidence for murder charges and bound the pair over to superior court. The pair remains in jail at this time.
