The 1st Annual Black Power Awards was held on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Riverside EpiCenter located in Austell, Georgia.

The hosts for the main event were artist and activist, David Banner, and Sa Roc.

According to organizers, “This dynamic event is coming at a time when masses of Black people are striving to solve problems, exceed societal expectations, and at the same time fully embrace our Afrikan heritage on purpose and on our own terms. We have been doing this in every arena: science and technology, agriculture, activism, economics, education, culture and many others! Now, the only logical conclusion is for Afrikans to come together to say for ourselves who we think are the champions of our communities. This, brothers and sisters is what makes The Black Power Awards different from any others.”

Their mission statement is “to collectively acknowledge those among us who quietly make the daily sacrifices to better the lives of our people; the Black Power Awards is saying in one voice, “we see you, we appreciate you”.

“To consolidate relationships based on principle unity that allow us to build institutions of dual and contending power despite our Socio-political and religious differences.

“We recognize that our success as a people is going to require all of us to create lucrative connections that will allow us to develop creative solutions to secure a prosperous future for our entire African nation.”
