Can you say awkward?
While it’s safe to say that most of the world has caught wind of Nick Cannon’s baby announcement. The “America’s Got Talent” host recently revealed he wasn’t exactly forthcoming when it came to breaking the news to his ex-wife, Mariah Carey.
In fact, during a chat with Los Angeles’ Power 106, the 36-year-old claimed Carey confronted him. “She came at me first about it, so it was actually easier,” Cannon told hosts J Cruz and Krystal Bee. “I don’t know how she heard about it, but she called me, and she was funny with it. She was like, ‘Mhm, I heard about you out here in these streets.'”
Meanwhile, the actor went on to clarify that his unborn child wasn’t an “oops baby” as the rumor mill has claimed. “Never an ‘oops baby.’ I’m so calculated with my moves…I’ve always wanted five kids,” he said, adding, “Just because my marriage was over didn’t mean I couldn’t continue my family.”
In fact, according to Cannon, the soon-to-be-parents grew up together. “I wanted to make sure it was someone who was solid, spiritual and had the same views,” he continued. “She’s been in my life. Our families grew up in the same projects together in San Diego. So there’s a lot of substance there.”
Though, the news of baby no. 3 is still “a sensitive topic for [Carey],” following the singer’s sudden split from billionaire businessman James Packer, an insider recently told ET, Cannon made a point to note having another child doesn’t replace but extend his family. “Mariah, Moroccan and Monroe will always be my family, but we always can have other aspects of our family.”
As previously reported, the rapper-turned-actor is expecting a baby with his ex-girlfriend and Miss Arizona USA 2010 title holder, Brittany Bell. “I’ve got a baby on the way,” the actor told Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club” last month, after calling Bell a “special young lady.”
