The impending 2017 Awards season has us on our game since #OscarsSoWhite2016 had us up in arms as did the results of the presidential election.

The SAG Awards—selected by members of the actors guild themselves— has earned distinction for being one of the best Oscar barometers, specifically the best-actor, actress, and supporting-actor winners.

This week, Sophia Bush and Common revealed the nominees for 2017’s annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Oscar frontrunners like Moonlight, La La Land, and especially Manchester by the Sea, which led the nominations with four citations. Fences, starring Viola Davis and Denzel Washington, didn’t trek too far behind with three.
