“Orange Is the New Black” star Samira Wiley has taken her relationship with longtime love Lauren Morelli to the next level. On Saturday, March 25, the pair tied the knot in Palm Springs, California, Martha Stewart Weddings reports. The newlyweds, who met on the set of their ever-so-popular Netflix series, said their “I do’s” during a confetti-themed celebration, representing their love of Funfetti cake. Fans will recall that the pair actually got engaged in Palm Springs, as well.
Previously reported, the lovebirds detailed the “magical” moment they got engaged in Out Magazine’s February issue. “We’d planned this weekend in Palm Springs. I’m pretty laid-back: If it’s five in the afternoon and Lauren wants to beat the traffic, I’m just hanging around. That day, I wanted to be good and get my packing done. She got home and was just not ready to go, and I was confused. She asked me to sit next to her. Then she got me up, and we started dancing together, and she pulled a ring from behind the couch,” Wiley said of the moment Morelli got down on bended knee.
“Lauren has been married before, so I wanted her to tell me she was ready, her to be the one to propose. I didn’t know she was as ready as she was. I was completely shocked. I was crying uncontrollably and kept backing away from her. I asked her after, ‘Who knows about this?’ and she said, ‘Oh, everyone. Your parents know.’ We didn’t tell anyone else for a few days. That was really important to us — to have some time where it was just ours,” Wiley continued.
The magazine reports that Wiley and Morelli called on Beth Helmstetter Events to plan the outdoor ceremony, which was officiated by Wiley’s parents. The couple made their grand entrance in Christian Siriano gowns. Montell Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It” and Justin Bieber’s “Baby” played as they entered the reception.
The couple began dating in 2014 following Morelli’s amicable split from Steve Basilone, her husband of two years. In May 2014, the writer-producer came out in an Identities.Mic essay writing, “I realized I was gay in fall 2012, one of my first days on the [OITNB] set.”
Congrats to the couple.
