Chris Rock recently shared his candid thoughts about divorce, infidelity and starting over.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the comedian-actor reveals he wasn’t exactly a dream husband. In fact, his divorce nearly broke him. “Getting divorced, you have to f—ing start over,” he said. “You get to reset. It’s not a breakdown, but something in your life broke down.”

Currently on what he calls his “alimony tour,” aka his “Total Blackout Tour,” the comedian continued, “I was a piece of s—.”

Rock and his wife of 18 years, Malaak Compton Rock, called it quits in 2014, although their divorce was not finalized until 2016. While there were countless rumors surrounding their split, infidelity fed their downward spiral.

“That’s bull—-,” Rock said of his initial belief that he could get away with cheating. “That actually goes the other way. My faults are magnified. Your significant other, if they really love you, has a high opinion of you. And you let them down.”

As for how he’s handled the negativity stemming from his divorce, the turning point came after, “I asked myself, ‘Do I want to be angry for a year?’ It’s not a cool place to be. It’s not healthy,” said Rock.

Furthermore, he admits it’s not fair to bash her when his ex doesn’t have the means to defend herself. “It’s not fair,” he told the magazine. “I have a mic, she doesn’t. God forbid people are bugging her in the supermarket. That’s not cool. I’m going to have to see her at weddings and graduations.”

Meanwhile, the 52-year-old revealed that his relationship with his children, specifically his daughters, even took a hit. “My own daughter has blocked me on Instagram. They grow up so quick.”

Now, Rock is moving forward, with his eyes set on God. “I wanna find some peace, ’cause people usually find that peace in a horrible time,” he revealed. “Why does that have to be? Maybe I can find God without being in shambles. Maybe I can reach a higher plane spiritually without being in a near-death experience.”

He’s also found love with his girlfriend, “CSI: Miami” actress, Megalyn Echikunwoke. “I’m dating a girl now,” he told RS. “She’s got her own dough, it’s amazing.”

Here’s to hoping he can get it right, the second time.
