Family brutally beats man who held them at gunpoint during home invasion
Chattanooga Police Department

Shane Feeney was enjoying time with family and friends when he heard sounds at the front door while inside of an apartment located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Feeney, and the others who were inside, decided to check the noise and noticed a man carrying a gun, according to WRCB. With gun in hand, the man demanded to be let inside.

When one of the people inside jumped out of a window to seek help, he was greeted by the gunman, Calvin Carter III. Carter aimed the gun at the man and forced him inside of the home. When Carter walked inside the home, he noticed that Feeney was on the phone talking to police. Carter aimed the gun at Feeney and forced him to get off the phone.

When Carter approached Feeney to grab his phone, Fenney grabbed him, but Carter was able get loose. Carter aimed his gun at Feeney and shot him in the leg. Once the shot went off, Fenney friends grabbed Carter. One friend in particular, Tucker Williams, began to punch Carter in the face. They were eventually able to grab the gun from Carter and hold him until the police arrive.

Although Feeney and his friends were able to take control over the situation, there are several things that can be done to increase safety measures during a home invasion. According to secretsofsurvival.com it’s important to: 1) Develop a safe room that can be hard for intruders to enter 2) Place weapons inside of the safe room 3) Keep a charged phone inside the safe room 4) Purchase a bull horn in advance to notify neighbors 5) Flee if there is an opportunity.

Carter was eventually arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder, aggravated burglary, reckless endangerment, and three counts of aggravated assault.
