Colin Kaepernick reacts to Michael Vick; Vick reacts to media headlines

NFL free agent Colin Kaepernick responded to former star quarterback Michael Vick a day after he made an appearance on FS1’s “Speak For Yourself.” In 2007, Vick went to prison in the span of the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He was given another chance in 2009 once being released from serving his sentence when he signed as a backup with the Philadelphia Eagles. In 2010, Vick became the team’s full-time starter and was an MVP candidate. Although not as talented as Vick, Kaepernick is another quarterback who was once a star in the league that’s currently looking to get back into the NFL. Despite finishing the 2016 season with 16 touchdowns and four interceptions, he still hasn’t found a new home a year after he became a cultural icon for speaking out against injustices in America with its Black citizens.

When asked about what advice Vick would give to Kaepernick to get back in the league, Vick said that Kaepernick needs to “get a haircut” first, emphasizing the importance of reimaging himself. Vick’s comments drew mass attention on July 18 and both Kaepernick and Vick reacted on social media.

Kaepernick only posted this message with a picture. He didn’t hold a press conference or even release a video response. He just posted a picture with the definition of a condition that is a result of “victim brainwashing.” Judging by how he responded, it appears he doesn’t plan on changing anything about his appearance anytime soon.

Vick’s clarification seemed a bit confusing because during the segment when he was speaking about Kaepernick, he said that he wasn’t on the show to be “politically correct” and that “perception and image are everything.” After show host Jason Whitlock foreshadowed the internet’s reaction to Vick’s statements, he didn’t back down.

“It’s the truth,” He said on “Speak For Yourself.” “I’m always going to be honest.”
