There’s a show in the works loosely based on the life of Meghan Markle — her love life at least.
According to Deadline, the “Suits” actress’ ex-husband, Trevor Engelson, is producing an as-yet-untitled divorce-comedy, inspired by real-life events — and by real life, we mean his former relationship with Markle, as well as her royal romance with Prince Harry.
“Divorce is hard. Sharing custody is harder. Sharing custody with the British royal family when your wife marries a prince, in the unforgiving spotlight of London’s tabloid media, is next level,” the show description reads.
While the entertainment site states that the comedy is reportedly fictional — neither of the lead characters are solely based on Markle or Engelson, who have no kids together — if the show’s premise is any indication of what fans can really expect, it’s fair to say the story sounds awfully familiar.
The idea was birthed from a discussion between Engelson — who also works on FX’s “Snowfall” — and fellow producer Dan Farah, where they imagined what life would have been like if Engelson and Markle had children, and potentially had to share custody with the royal family.
The show has received a pilot commitment from Fox, and the network “bought the comedy on the spot.” Deadline also reports that it could be a huge hit — it is believed that they offered the project the largest commitment for a comedy this season.
In September 2011, Engelson and Markle tied the knot at the Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. The wedding, which took place in front of 102 guests, was a four-day affair. Just two years later, the couple separated, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The pair split for good in August 2013.
As previously reported, Markle and her British bad boy prince, have been going strong since publicly announcing their relationship last November. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Markle revealed that they’re head over heels in love. “We’re a couple. We’re in love,” she shared in the publication’s October issue, currently on stands. “I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us.”
She added, “It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”
