A 60-year-old Black man nearly lost his life because of a hate and violence by two racist White men. The incident occurred after days of racial taunting from the White men who lived near the Black man in Fresno, Calif., according to Visalia Times-Delta.
The White men, Hadden Kennedy, 25, and Jodan Peck, 39, decided to harm the Black man after days of racial taunts. On Oct. 22, Kennedy and Peck approached the victim near his home and began yelling racial slurs at him. The racist men started to beat the Black man and stabbed in several times. They ran after several minutes of attacking him. Authorities found the man on the ground suffering from the stab wounds and medics airlifted him to a nearby hospital.
Hate crimes continue to rise in America. Many have contributed the election of Donald Trump to the increase of overt racism and hate crimes in the nation. Trump has inspired racist Whites to be more violent with his racist rhetoric. Following the racist attacks in Charlottesville, Trump failed to condemn the racists and even called the racists, “very fine people.”
In 2017, most major cities have witnessed a significant rise in hate crimes. According to the Study of Hate & Extremism by California State University, hate crimes increased by 46 percent in Phoenix increased; 28 percent in New York; 22 percent in Washington, D.C.; and 13 percent in Los Angeles.
Although these numbers are appalling, Trump has done little to speak out against the hate crimes and has not implemented any legislation that would slow this alarming trend.
The District Attorney in Tulare County will decided if Kennedy and Peck will be charged with a hate crime. They were initially charged with attempted murder.
