Meghan Markle is engaged to Prince Harry, the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and fifth in line to the throne. The couple will marry in the spring of 2018 and will be named the duchess and duke of Sussex.
Markle will also be known as Princess Meghan.
However, Markle is being ridiculed for her background. Her mother is a Black yoga instructor and her father is a White cinematographer.
Markle, who was married previously, has faced negative criticism from multiple media outlets. Racial undertones have been used against Markle. Melanie McDonagh wrote in The Spectator, “Obviously, seventy years ago, Meghan Markle would have been the kind of woman the Prince would have had for a mistress, not a wife.”
McDonagh continued with her hate-fueled article, writing, “Things have changed. She’ll now be the apotheosis of the union of showbiz and royalty, with a glorious subsidiary cast of embarrassing relations.”
Other outlets have highlighted that Markle is divorced and biracial as if it is a hinderance to being in the royal family.
In 2016, Price Harry blasted the media for the racial undertones and sexism directed at Markle.
It’s important for media outlets to be held accountable when they attempt to disparage Markle by adding racist views to their coverage.
