When people call a person crazy, it can be said in a humorous way such as “Yo, Trump is buggin’, he’s crazy” followed by laughter. After all, during Trump’s campaign and the first year of his administration, he said or displayed behavior which was humorous to some. But then when we see Trump taunt and name-call North Korean President Kim Jung-Un, a brutal dictator with nuclear weapons who has allegedly killed his brother, uncle, and others, it is troubling. Saying “Yo, Trump is buggin’, he’s crazy” is not followed by laughter but is said in a fearful tone.
Last week, we bore witness to a respected psychologist briefing lawmakers about Trump’s mental health. Bandy Lee, an assistant professor in forensic psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine stated that Trump was unraveling and that he needed to be evaluated, by force if necessary. She told Vox magazine, “So in an emergency, neither consent nor confidentiality requirements hold. Safety comes first. What we do in the case of danger is we contain the person, we remove them from access to weapons, and we do an urgent evaluation.”
If Trump was found to be mentally unfit, he could be removed from office under the 25th Amendment of the Constitution. That amendment states in part: “In Case of the Removal of the President from Office, or of his Death, Resignation, or Inability to discharge the Powers and Duties of the said Office, the Same shall devolve on the Vice President, and the Congress may by Law provide for the Case of Removal, Death, Resignation or Inability, both of the President and Vice President, declaring what Officer shall then act as President, and such Officer shall act accordingly, until the Disability be removed, or a President shall be elected.”
Trump recently tweeted about his mental state that he was a “very stable genius.” Then yesterday it was leaked that he called the island nation of Haiti and the continent of Africa “shithole countries” and preferred Whites from countries like Norway. Further proving that he is a racist.
The time of Trump is truly bizarre, we are witnessing the rapid unraveling of the world’s most powerful leader as we all can say “Yo, Trump is buggin’. He’s crazy” and there is no laughter. But if Trump is deemed crazy are we ready for President Pence?
