At 84 years old, Quincy Jones has a multitude of girlfriends in different area codes. During an explosive interview with GQ, the legendary producer revealed that he has 22 girlfriends around the world. When asked about his 22 girlfriends, Jones answered by saying, “Hell yeah. Everywhere. Cape Town. Cairo. Stockholm—she’s coming in next week. Brazil—Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, and Rio. Shanghai—got a great girl over there from Shanghai, man. Cairo, whew.” Jones says that all of the women know each other and he remains honest with them about other women he chooses to date.
Jones said that his six daughters did not want him to date women who are their ages or younger. He replied by saying, “‘Y’all are not young anymore.’ So the new numbers are 28 to 42. They gave them to me.”
Jones also said that he does not date women his age, joking that he has technology that will keep “old and fat” women away from his home.
But Jones also shared why he has struggled with maintaining relationships in the past. His mother was taken from him at a young age due to mental issues. When he was 7 years old, his mother was removed from their home in a straitjacket. In turn, Jones was raised in the streets with music being his saving grace.
While on the road as a musician, he found himself in situations where casual sex became a routine for him and his fellow bandmates. Although he married three times and has seven kids, Jones continues to live life like a bachelor.
Sex and music have always co-existed and Jones came up in an era where sexual freedom was the norm. But it’ll be interesting to hear the response that Jones receives for his honesty during the height of the women’s empowerment movement. Some may view his comments as sexist and a form of body shamming, but he shared his reality of being a wealthy musical legend who has access to almost anything, or person, that he wants.
At the age of 84, Jones can afford to live life on his own terms.
