Joann Kelly, the daughter of supremely talented but embattled singer R. Kelly, was not very talkative when the media inquired about the sex scandal raging around her father.
Joann Kelly spoke carefully and reluctantly to TMZ in Atlanta regarding her dad, who is a legend in the music game, but whose alleged abnormal proclivities in the bedroom are also legendary. Also known by her stage name Buku, the young woman confessed that she didn’t “have much of a comment.” She later revealed the scandal is “hard” and added that she feels “terrible” about what’s popping off with her father and the women involved.
“It’s very close to my heart. It’s just hard ’cause it’s family matters. But overall, it’s hard. I try not to speak about it too much, but it is what it is. I feel terrible,” she said.
There was a pregnant pause when TMZ asked the invasive question of whether she is close to her father and has a connection with him. She eventually said, “We’re family. We’re gonna deal with each other.”
Joann Kelly is one of three of R. Kelly’s children. The other two are Robert Kelly Jr. and Jaya.
Following last July’s release of a Buzzfeed story about R. Kelly allegedly running a sex cult, accusations against the famed R&B star have been fairly frequent.
The scrutiny surrounding R. Kelly intensified when a 19-year-old woman, who was once in a relationship with Kelly and who was allegedly groomed to be in his sex cult, claimed he knowingly gave her and others an STD.
Authorities in Texas are currently investigating the matter. R. Kelly has denied all accusations of sexual misconduct.
