Donald Trump, in full bombastic and bodacious form while campaigning in Montana, delivered a misogyny-laden and demagogic speech during a rally of his supporters. During the assembly, No. 45 spewed incendiary rhetoric directed at the #MeToo movement and mocked Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s Native American ancestry. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Let’s say I’m debating Pocahontas, right? I promise you I’ll do this, you know those little kits they sell on television for $2 — ‘Learn your heritage,’ ” Trump said to the laughing Montana crowd, according to Fox News.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I’m going to get one of those little DNA kits, and in the middle of the debate, when she proclaims that she’s of Indian heritage because her mother said she has high cheekbones,” Trump joked to the delight of his overwhelmingly homogeneous audience.
“We will take that little kit and say ― but we have to do it gently because we’re in the Me Too generation so we have to be very gentle,” the president added. “And we will very gently take that kit and we will slowly toss it to her. Hoping it doesn’t hit her and injure her arm, even though it only weighs about 2 ounces.”
The tenor and substance of Trump’s speech did not surprise his detractors, even those who are Republican conservatives.
“For those of us who already thought Trump is a crass, unpresidential, morally unfit, infantile, disgusting jerk, it’s hard to muster much more of a reaction,” Ana Navarro, a Republican strategist told the Boston Globe. “It just becomes reason 1,583 to affirm that belief.”
For those who have yet to see the Montana rally, here is the portion in question from Fox News:
Warren, D-Massachusetts, wasted little time providing a sharp rebuke of Trump while simultaneously mocking the administration’s difficulty in reuniting immigrant families who were ripped apart at the U.S.-Mexico border at Trump’s behest.
“While you obsess over my genes, your [Administration] is conducting DNA tests on little kids because you ripped them from their mamas,” Warren posted on her Twitter account. “You are too incompetent to reunite them in time to meet a court order. Maybe you should focus on fixing the lives you’re destroying.”
Warren, 69, also sent out a fund-raising e-mail where she denounced Trump’s comments about her as “creepy,” but she assured her supporters that she is well equipped to “handle a bully.”
“Donald Trump isn’t just trying to scare me – he’s trying to bully all women and make us all shut up,” Warren wrote on Twitter. “He still doesn’t think guys like him should be held accountable for what they say or do.”
Do you believe Trump will ever be held accountable for his irresponsible, sexist and race-baiting speeches?
