Carol Maraj refuses to just lay back in the cut and live vicariously through her superstar daughter Nicki Minaj. The rap queen’s mom is determined to live her best life by realizing her own dreams as a recording artist.
Looking like a duplicate of her famous daughter as she stunts charismatically in the promotional artwork, Maraj dropped her pink-drenched single, “What Makes You,” midnight Tuesday, July 2, 2019, for her 169,000 Instagram fans.
A day earlier, she teased fans on the date and time the song would drop with this Instagram post:

According to NickiMinaj.Fandom.com, Maraj, who turns 60 in December, is of mixed Afro- and Indo-Trinidadian ancestry and hails from Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago, a dual-island nation in the Caribbean. She is the 10th of 11 children who grew up in poverty and then entered into an abusive marriage.
Maraj has three children of her own: Jehlani, Ming, and Onika Tanya Maraj, 36, better known to the world at Nicki Minaj. Matriarch Maraj readily credits God with helping her to not only survive hardships while growing up and a volatile marriage but also to see her daughter soar in the music industry. It inspired her first single, “God’s Been Good,” back in 2014.
